gregbrown Posted July 1, 2013 No no no. It's shit like Biscuits 'n' Gravy and Hashed Browns for breakfast, or Chicken 'n' Dumplin's and... Hashed Browns for dinner. Really heavy, awful-for-you food. But so delicious. (Also stuff like pancakes, bacon, eggs / there's probably some steak, sandwiches, they MIGHT have some salad but I dunno.) More than that, though, it's the most amazingly consistent franchise I've ever seen. No matter where you are, when you enter a Cracker Barrel you find that same food and that same trappings of Southern-ish culture, even in the woods of northern Michigan where I used to live. The demographic of visitors even shifts, with inexplicable transplanted southerners somehow showing up, even though you've never seen them elsewhere in the city. They are the damnedest things, and while I can't really stand their affectations, there's a perverse fascination with how they manage it in northern states. syntheticgerbil Posted July 1, 2013 Cracker Barrel is nasty. Why is it all so bland starch powdery? I mean don't get me wrong, I tend to enjoy bottom of the barrel breakfast foods (especially breakfast tacos), but Cracker Barrel is bad news.

Argobot Posted July 1, 2013 I'm gearing up for a cross-country road trip, and this thread is giving me some ideas of tourists traps I should stop at. I'm also one of those people who has only experienced the West and East Coast and have very limited experience with the Midwest, so the trip should be fun (is what I'm telling myself every time I contemplate driving for a few days across empty fields and balls of twine). Dewar Posted July 1, 2013 Alas, the Mount Rushmore Dinosaur Tarpit and Bungee Jumping National Park and the Celebrity Vegetable Museum don't seem to be real... yet! The Dinosaur Tarpit is probably a referense to http://www.mammothsite.com/, a really cool sinkhole excavation that's not too far from Mount Rushmore.
