BigJKO Posted October 6, 2014 Bought it! I'm weak and need my Smash fix! Now if only I didn't have to work....
dium Posted October 6, 2014 I am so hyped for Smash right now. Seriously, excitable child levels of anticipation. But I know that as soon as I have Smash 4 WiiU I'm never gonna touch Smash 4 3DS. So I'm resisting the urge the best I can. But I may give in.
miffy495 Posted October 6, 2014 I made a math sheet for my students today where they had to use the rounding and estimation that they've been practicing to compile a selection of things from a list that I should probably spend $40 on rather than SSB3DS. Little do they know, I've already got it on the way from Amazon.

Pepyri Posted October 7, 2014 goddamnit you assholes stop trying to tempt me Don't worry, when you first buy it you'll regret it until you realize you're thinking about it in the morning and at night and then at lunch at work and then during work and then what's work again and you'll still be really bad at the game. By the way, I beat a level 6 AI today! Yay!
Twig Posted October 7, 2014 I couldn't buy it because I didn't have room on my SD card and didn't want to delete Animal Crossing or Pokemon or Luigi's Mansion because I occasioanlly play the first two and am in the middle of the last one. I need a new SD card.
tegan Posted October 7, 2014 Buying a ludicrously high-capacity microSD card when the New 3DS rolls around is gonna be a bummer for me.
Twig Posted October 7, 2014 Oh is it not going to use regular SD? Also is there a maximum size 3DS can take? I guess I'll google it nevermind.
tegan Posted October 7, 2014 Micro only and no maximum. I just have a whole shitload of digital games because I refuse to buy things physically anymore.

N1njaSquirrel Posted October 7, 2014 WiiU UK SSB release confirmed 5/12: You can also get amiibo bundle: I'm assuming you can choose your amiibo bundle, because I really want that Yoshi. EDIT: WiiU + GC controller bundle revealed as well, but we already knew that. Waiting for them to release the WiiU + GC controller + amiibo bundle now. XD This is all from the UK Nintendo twitter feed btw. I assume the US will be getting the same release date/bundles?
tegan Posted October 7, 2014 Smash U launches November 21st, Amiibo (and Captain Toad!) December 5th here.
RubixsQube Posted October 7, 2014 I'm assuming that they're going to announce it's release in like, a few weeks, and it'll be out late November. I think they've realized that the 3DS version is advertisement for both, really, and there are a lot of people who are waiting for the WiiU version. If they had announced a hard date for the WiiU version, it'd just cut into their own sales for the 3DS game.
tegan Posted October 7, 2014 Oh shiiiiiii- Pokémon and Smash come out on the same day.
shammack Posted October 7, 2014 I'm glad people on podcasts can finally stop murmuring about how unlikely it is that it'll be out this year.
syntheticgerbil Posted October 7, 2014 Is there some OCD reason I will have to buy these Amiibo figures? I really don't want to but if they unlock exclusive content, I guess I am forced.

BigJKO Posted October 8, 2014 Ok, has anyone tried alternative control schemes? I've ended up getting used to the default scheme, so when I tried changing it it felt like shit. And I don't want to take the time to get used to a potentially shit scheme if anyone has a perfect one that I should get used to instead. Also, you can turn off the character outlines and I don't know.. I didn't feel like it was any worse for it! Those lines look a bit ugly, to be honest. RubixsQube Posted October 8, 2014 I went in when I got it and turned off "tilt up to jump" and then swapped R and L, but I've since gone back and swapped R and L back to their default, with R as shield, and L as grab. I had thought that I wanted to put R as grab since that's what it was with a Gamecube controller, but it didn't feel right. Otherwise, I'm happy with the default controls. Also, I kind of like the heavy character outlines.
aprettycooldude Posted October 8, 2014 Default scheme, tap jump off, heavy outlines = life I think the problem with tilt up to jump is that 90% of the time I end up jumping (duh) instead of doing an up tilt; I had the same problem in previous Smash games, but the Circle Pad I think somehow made it more pronounced. shammack Posted October 8, 2014 I thought I was going to want to remap the controls, but when I tried it the way I thought I wanted it (putting normal attack on B, special on Y, and jump on A and X), it ended up feeling even weirder. So I figured if I'm going to have to get used to a control scheme no matter what, I might as well stick to the default.
RubixsQube Posted October 9, 2014 I know that this is mega dumb, but I took this screen capture last night. I really like the idea of Samus trying to get her Metroid pal to eat healthy.
Sno Posted October 10, 2014 So this is the first Smash Bros game that i have approached as if it were a real fighting game rather than a big elaborate museum of Nintendo nonsense with a button mashing game affixed to it. As a result, i think i've actually fallen into the "NO ITEMS, FD ONLY" side of the argument. You know what though? I am enjoying this game so much. Also, given the above change of opinion, I think it is awesome that there are FD variants for every stage.I believe i've fallen into old habits though, because i'm mostly playing Lucina. So really just Marth, i guess i'm just playing Marth. Some gripes though: I don't like that Smash Run randomly chooses rules for the final battle after you've gone around building up your character. There's also that challenge board where, by the third board, some of those unlocks are looking like quite a hell of a grind. The online game also lags like insanity with 4 players, but 2 and 3 players have been totally fine in most cases. because they're AWESOME I'll probably just buy a Samus one.Oh wait, but Captain Falcon's a favorite too.You know, i like Fire Emblem a lot, so maybe i should get a Marth one.I mean, and i have to get a Kirby, how could i not? ... tegan Posted October 10, 2014 Amiibos are weird. They're different from something like Skylanders or Disney Infinity, because those figures are compatible with a single game and have a clear-cut purpose. Meanwhile, Amiibo compatibility seems scattershot and heavily weighted in favour of certain characters (I'll be getting Mario because I guarantee he'll be in EVERYTHING, but might hold off on Wii Fit Trainer because her use seems extremely limited) and it's not really clear what they do in any game besides Smash Bros, where their usage seems pretty weak. Are they going to just be AI buddies in every game? Will they serve as physical DLC in some games the way Infinity figures and Skylanders do? It's frustrating. That said, I have a bunch of those things on my amazon wishlist, so clearly I'm a consumer whore.
