Grand Thumb Auto retro PC edition

Well that was fun, even though certain people joined late, left early or never joined at all. I feel like the episodes multiplayer fun is quickly exhausted, though. Of course they couldn't let us play GTA race with all those cool new vehicles!

I think I'm remembering this now about the couple of times I was able to join in with Episodes matches back on Xbox Live. They seem to be quite superficial updates, and somehow don't feel quite as free or expansive as the original game.

I can't quite articulate how at the moment. It might be that the Episodes modes are so focussed on echoing the specific themes and gimmicks of each episode that it walls in the underlying GTA IV multiplayer experience they're built upon.

I did enjoy racing around in the prison busses though. Lone Rider just seems to be incredibly frustrating all round; either mundane for the person escaping, as we all know the city so well by now, and maddening for those trying to catch up and take over.

I can't remember anything noteworthy or distinct about the Gay Tony multiplayer modes, except for the addition of nitro to the one car you start in. Now, if they had nitro for every vehicle in every mode, that could've made things much more interesting...

Anyway, I'm looking forward to next week already. I'll stick a regular game in the Steam calendar, and we can switch over to Episodes if people want to.

For those who left comments on the Steam event for last night, you need to get on Mumble and we kick things off from there. Assuming we haven't already started, in which case we'll invite you in to the session.  :yep:

Also I feel a bit like  :stan:  organising these games... "Do this! Go here! Play now!"

Sorry I didn't make it. The combination of a troublesome journey home from work, an unco-operative PC and a general state of exhaustion meant I really didn't have the energy for it. NEXT TIME.

Yeah I dropped out before the races after not getting an invite or missing how to join that part or something, so I was like meh, I'm tired and it's late, it's time to eat some more cake, so I ate some more cake, and today I must eat less of it.

Did you guys get to play any of Lost's Club Business stuff last night?

We did Club Business the previous time. I didn't really like it. The city domination was interesting, but you really need quite a bit of people for that.

For reasons unknown, you never show up as online in GfWL for me. I did try to send you invites though!  ;(

Cheers! We'll have to take it as a GfWL quirk. It"s happened before, too, but I've always been able to see you as online and (apart from that one time in Reno) accept your invites.

So far the Sunday event wasn't been as popular as the Monday event.

Most satisfying moment for me was when I killed JamesM about 5 meters before the finish line of a GTA Race, and thereby finishing 1st instead of JamesM.

You are a certified bugger.

My favourite moment was having a phone conversation with my friend while everyone apparently took the merciless piss.

Can't get onto the Mumble server.

Might not have noticed CAPS LOCK was on when typing in my password. Multiple times.

Get a mic!!!

I liked the bit with an international phone call.

My favourite bit was the heated debate around just how (pre-)pubescent Michael Bay’s cinematography is, followed by the group’s exploration of the complex narrative tributaries within the Fast & Furious hexalogy.

And Patters’ drinking game related there-of.
