Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I post this video in shame:

I didn't know you were not allowed to put bombs in the store :/ Either way, I fucked up a lot of things.

According to my overview Patrick did good. I think you show up as $0 when you're still playing it?

I messed up a lot right in the first level and spent the rest of my time trying to make up for it. I went out of my way to try and get the damsel but didn't help much in the end. Also couldn't find the key to the chest which bothered me. Maybe tomorrow I'll try and set up the video capture and document my stupidity.

Aw, man. I was hoping for some hilarious disaster.

I guess I don't understand the powder boxes as well as I thought.

I don't know what set it off.

To make up for lack of disaster, I offer up Chris Remo's run from yesterday:

...and my equally-baffling incompetence for today:

Here you go. My glorious attempt where I try something foolish with a rock and pay dearly for it. Do something foolish with a really big rock and magically escape through sheer luck. Try something foolish with a damsel and she pays dearly for it. Visit a black market but don't buy anything and then proceed to die in the dumbest way possible.

I made a huge mess, but still managed to get quite far. I'm just too eager to pick up those idols :)

Today during a random run in the mines I whipped open a jar and there was an alien inside. ???

I... don't think that's ever happened to me.  Must be a super low chance.

The first one I tried to push killed me exactly like that, and I've never tried it again. Maybe it's a random chance that being pushed sets one off.

I owned today's challenge, got to 2-3 with ease. Sadly my Jungle skills are minimal so I managed to drop into a huge spike trap above some vines.

There were really a shitload of crates in the levels. Anyway, I had a rather enjoyable relaxed session. (And I'm on top of my friends list)

Seems like that wouldn't be in the spirit of the game though. The Daily Challenge goes as far as locking the wheel-of-fortune so that randomness isn't a factor.

Typically it takes a direct hit by a rock, whip, arrow; or shrapnel from another explosion, pottery-shards or blood-splatter to set it off.

You'd think I'd have learned my lesson, but nope. Spikes again!

I have a feeling that it had something to do with the bat no longer being above a ground block? Perhaps while the bat was 1 space above ground blocks it counted as being on the ground but once I pushed it off the edge, perhaps it then counted as flying and then set off the powder box as a flying object that came into contact with the powder box.

That's my best guess right now.

I made a lot of dumb mistakes in this one. The death is kind of funny though.

Nothing to video it with yet, but I thought since I've been getting to the jungle consistently, I'd try a daily. Hit myself in the face with a bomb in 1-1, which then landed next to me

My daily runs end with me cursing every day so i don't post them. Last night was kinda heartbreaking, but I started it way too late in the evening to be at my best.

I for some reason stopped playing when my video card died a few weeks back. I finally played again today (not the daily, just a regular run), and made it farther than I ever have in this version on my first try and unlocked the robot in the alien spaceship level and then died to some pink ring blasts from two aliens in cages.

Game is fun.

I don't really think explosive crates can touch enemies at all. I learned that the hard way.

Hmm.. new theory after watching that. Might be that enemies can sort of push an object into the crate to cause an explosion (In your case bones, in my case a gold bar).  I don't think direct enemy contact does it because I push my bat for quite a while before it explodes.
