The chaps behind EA’s Game’s early efforts at online gaming are to create an online Star Trek universe based around, the original series, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, however no mention has been made about Voyager or Enterprise. Perpetual Entertainment’s Joe Keene and Chris McKibben have negotiated with Viacom, which owns the Star Trek computer franchise, to build the virtual universe for players to roam around. The game will be an action adventure that will explore all aspects of the Star Trek universe from Tribbles to Klingons. So. Not that I'l ever play this game, but if I did, I think I'd be on the 'original series' server and learn to be a tailor who makes red shirt uniforms for starfleet. ThePope Posted September 11, 2004 This game could be very fun, But the challenge of making a Star Trek MMO Is HUGE. The only way i think it would work is if when you picked a server you picked a ship, or a starbase, and you were part of that crew. But who would be captain, how would you hand out rank. that ship would also have to be under pretty much constant attack to keep things fun. Chris Posted September 11, 2004 If they could somehow work it out, an MMO in which one person has to rise to the rank of Captain through a long hard process requiring tons of crap would be relaly cool. I'd suspect there would be some sort of time-limiting mechanism so one player couldn't just dominate the role for ages, but I like the idea of players actually being able to inhabit a true heirarchy, if for no other reason than I don't think any other MMO actually does that. That said, I don't know anything about Star Trek and I don't know what the captain of a ship in that world does other than decide where to go, so maybe it wouldn't be fun, but Kirk was always doing fun stuff right?
