Dinosaursssssss Posted July 24, 2015 Terry Cavanagh just put out a new version of Bosca Ceoil, his music making tool. I think I've evangelized for this thing a lot around here already, but it's 'cause it is amazing and allows a goof like me to make some little tunes. http://boscaceoil.net/ Weirdly I think I got more excited for this new release than any games that have come out (or been announced) this year. Neat, it's like Ableton stripped down to its barest essentials.

Dinosaursssssss Posted July 29, 2015 This is a little weird to share in the Amateur game making thread, but I just put my 2nd game, MILE-AGE, out on iOS/Android! If you have a buck to spare, please check it out and let me know what you honestly think in a pm/email! I certainly didn't get everything done I wanted to, but I'm happy with how this came out, so I'm of course curious what folks think. Android : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funghost.mileage iOS : https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mile-age/id998185826

In fact, I ran to buy it! I have only played a little, but it's fun, and I really like the art style. It reminded me of a plastic scrolling road toy I had as a real little kid... only much, much better. It's probably how I imagined that toy to be when I was 6. I'm looking forward to getting better and using the weapons more. Oh, the first time I loaded it up, it got hung up on the ghost after the logo words faded away. I shut it down, tried again and it zipped right to the start.

Travis Posted August 12, 2015 I wanted to practice using Unity's built in animation tools which I haven't used extensively, so I made . There are some things I would like to do better, but I think it turned out alright. I realized I haven't really drawn much in about 20 years. Anyway, I had a lot of fun making it! Looking forward to animating more soon. Oh, and that jaunty music is from Eric Matyas over at soundimage.org who has a running thread in here. Thanks, Eric! Dinosaursssssss Posted August 21, 2015 Just came across some bonkers open source Unity assets on Twitter that I had to share...there's some incredibly cool looking stuff in here. https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/3hst9l/best_unity_assets_by_keijiro_takahashi_including/ And the creators actual blog: http://keijiro.github.io/ He says he makes a lot of visual effects for musicians, and looking over these gifs...yeah, they would be PERFECT for making some weird little audio-reactive games. edit: I made a tiny visualizer thing using https://github.com/keijiro/KvantTunnel and it's pretty neat, but doesn't seem to run on webgl. Anyway, I super highly recommend checking these little projects out; his Vimeo page also has some absolutely incredible stuff
zerofiftyone Posted August 24, 2015 Ugghhh that stuff looks so good. Ever since I moved onto Unreal Engine, this is the thing I've missed most about Unity; the community is so huge and as a result there's so much in the way of interesting open source tools and assets. Dinosaursssssss Posted August 24, 2015 I guess on the bright side it means there's still plenty of space in the UE4 tools market for solo/small team developers, unlike the Unity asset store which feels really crowded and is drawing in bigger teams that are dedicated to plugin development? Granted I haven't checked in a bit so maybe there's more there now, but it seemed pretty sparse when I last checked.
bakelite Posted August 24, 2015 Those videos are amazing and are making me wish that the UE4 audio tools weren't such a mess, they were obviously made by a programmer with no experience of regular audio production. And I think the size of the Unity store is a bit deceptive. Sure, there's a bunch of great stuff there, but it's also full of mediocre 3D models and plugins that haven't been updated since 2013. Joewintergreen Posted August 25, 2015 I guess you could use FMOD? I dunno if that's helpful, my audio guy just always wanted fmod on ue3
Joewintergreen Posted August 25, 2015 That bird flocking stuff linked above got me thinkin' I'd try to do something similar myself in blueprint, here's how far i got

Dinosaursssssss Posted September 10, 2015 Booth Stuff! I'm showing MILE-AGE at 2 local events (Boston Festival of Indie Games, and Bit Fest which is a little arcade + beer popup) over the next 3 days so I wanted to make sure I had everything. Chargers, cables, banners, water, headphones, regular phones, stickers, pins, tools, tape...tryin' to be prepared. This might kinda be my last hurrah as a full-time solo indie...when I got laid off I budgeted for a year of development with 0 income, and I'm just about there. Barring a sudden avalanche of sales, after this I'm doubling down on job applications I guess. It's certainly been educational...I donno how much other folks would find it useful, but I feel like I ought to write a post-mortem of the year to sort out my own thoughts on it.
