ihavefivehat Posted June 13, 2014 So this looks pretty fantastic! They're saying all the right things. I ache for more Zelda. Give me all the Links. I can feel my inner Nintendo fan-boy beginning to stir from his long sleep. Remember when Zelda was the most amazing thing, guys? What if that happened again? Oh yeah, and this exists: Let's pretend it doesn't!
tegan Posted June 13, 2014 Realistic cloth physics! It amazes me that the E3 Hyrule Warriors coverage had a bit where Midna from Twilight Princess shoot the Hookshot up into the sky and use it to crash the Majora's Mask Moon into the Earth, but that it still wasn't enough to make me care. Also, have you played A Link Between Worlds? Because I'm considering upgrading it in my personal list from "best Zelda game since Wind Waker" to "best Zelda game." Twig Posted June 13, 2014 I'm actually honestly sort of interested in Hyrule Warriors. I've never played a Dynasty Warriors/Musou game before and don't know how much I'd actually enjoy one, but if there's anything that'd convince me to finally try one, it's this. ...Or, preferably, one starring Wario and Waluigi. JonCole Posted June 13, 2014 Literally the only thing that keeps me playing Dynasty Warriors at all is a rock-solid sense of nostalgia for the first couple games and weird attachments to the individual characters that come back again and again. I've heard some better things about Sengoku Basara which is quite popular in Japan, as it has slightly more invested in the gameplay part of the whole equation than DW. So without the nostalgia factor, I think Hyrule Warriors would have to do something at least a little different combat-wise to get me interested.
SecretAsianMan Posted June 13, 2014 The closest I've come to Dynasty Warriors was N3: Ninety-Nine Nights, which is basically the same game. It was thoroughly uninteresting. I have similar suspicions about Hyrule Warriors. As for the actual Zelda game, I am at this point intrigued. It looks nice and an open world Zelda sounds pretty good after playing Link Between Worlds, but I need more details before I'll commit fully. Like how annoying is the companion going to be? Twig Posted June 13, 2014 Yeah I'm not at all optimistic about Hyrule Warriors. But I feel I should at least try the genre once before fully committing to writing it off forever. And at least I'll get some really stupid and awful and probably offensive, 'cause why not Zelda story while I'm at it.
Griddlelol Posted June 13, 2014 I'm excited for Hyrule Warriors. Looks like dumb fun with characters I already like!
Tanukitsune Posted June 13, 2014 As a fan of Dynasty Warriors, I can say N3 was horrid, even the worst Koei Warriors game is better than N3.... And as a fan of Dynasty Warriors, this could get amazingly cheesy, in Dynasty Warriors they give wives, strategists, poets and other character the silliest weapons and include them in the game... So it's possible that EVERY Zelda character is playable, I'm not speaking just Tingle, I'm speaking the kid who likes to catch bugs in A Link to Past could take down foes with a giant bug net and have swarms of bees attack his foes... that's how KOEI rolls... Twig Posted June 13, 2014 If they really do go full on cheese and let me play as random characters in specific games, I'll be super into it, I suspect.

Tanukitsune Posted June 14, 2014 The only problem that there could is how much fun Nintendo will let KOEI have, maybe you could play as Malon, Beedle and everyone else, but maybe Nintendo won't let them be in the game... :| When they do a Warriors styled game for some other franchise they try to make every character playable, but Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage only had 9 character and One Piece Pirate Warriors had only 14... Still, there is no way the game will just be the four characters they showed us, I really hope we get at least 10+ character for this game. They kinda have to add "silly characters", who's left that can fight? The trainer from Wind Waker? I'd rather have Dampé. XP
dartmonkey Posted June 14, 2014 Hyrule Warriors looks like brainless colourful fun. On my scale of interest it's somewhere above Crossbow Training/Tingle's Rupee La La Land(?) and below Four Swords. Surely they'll have a goron in the character lineup? Biggoron. I'm a little surprised at how unanimously positive the internet has been about Zelda U. Aunoma is saying the right things but I'm sceptical about Skyrim comparisons. That field could be it! It looks nice but my eyes are seeing Skyward Sword in HD. Which is nice. Very nice, in fact. I'm just (pleasantly) surprised everyone's so positive. They got a lot of mileage out of very little material. Also, have you played A Link Between Worlds? Because I'm considering upgrading it in my personal list from "best Zelda game since Wind Waker" to "best Zelda game." My body is about ready for A Link Between Worlds now. I ploughed through Minish Cap, Spirit Tracks and LttP in quick succession and I needed a break. 'Best Zelda game' is high praise - do you think nostalgia for LttP helps elevate it into that bracket? Cleinhun Posted June 14, 2014 I've always been a fan of the metroidvania style Zelda games have taken (as opposed to the explore-y openness the first one supposedly had) , which may or may not be an unpopular opinion, but it's certainly and uncommonly expressed one. That said, I'd be interested to see if they commit to full Skyrim-Zelda for this game, or if they do some weird hybrid thing. ...Or, preferably, one starring Wario and Waluigi. Stop making me want things that will never exist.

I didn't play it until it came out on the GBA , and I never actually finished it*. Admittedly I would have been 12 at the time, but I had also played Ocarina by then. *and still haven't beaten it despite owning every release of it at least once. ihavefivehat Posted June 14, 2014 'Open world' sounds interesting, but what excites me most are the comparisons to the original Legend of Zelda. That has always been one of my favorite games and it's really not too much like any of it's sequels. It's much more about survival, tenacity, and a sense of mystery than item collection and puzzle solving. I wonder how much of that they're going to incorporate into the new game. BFrank Posted June 14, 2014 As soon as I heard that Hyrule Warriors could be played 2 players, one on the TV and one on the tablet, I was kinda sold. The Zelda wrapper over it isn't a big deal, but I'm not mad at them for making a Dynasty Warrior game where you aren't killing 30 human beings every second. Replacing dudes with monsters seems like a solid choice for a button mashy game that kids might like.
